Wir brauchen Kontakt, das ist alles, was wir brauchen. Wenn wir etwas brauchen – gleich was – verlieren wir den Kontakt. Aber wie, fragt unser Baby, ist es überhaupt möglich, den Kontakt zu verlieren (in fassungsloser Empörung blickt es uns an und greift fest nach unseren Nasen)?

We need nothing (which is as untrue a claim as it is possible to conceive, but that doesn’t at all diminish the pleasure of claiming it). We need nothing – and already the first repetition establishes the truth of this claim: what we need is not what we need. We need contact, and that is all we need. As soon as we need something – no matter what – we lose contact. But how, our baby asks, how can you possibly lose contact (looking at us with perplexed indignation and firmly grasping for our noses)?
