Der Eindruck täuscht nicht: wir sehen dem Werden unseres Babys zu. Heißt das, es entwickelt sich? Bedeutet Entwicklung nicht, daß das, was da ist, sich entwickelt? Wie das? Was da ist, was so vollkommen da ist, wie könnte es sich noch entwickeln? Also muss das Werden, dem wir zusehen, etwas Anderes sein. Gut, dass wir (das Baby, du, ich) es nicht eilig haben.

The impression is not deceptive: we are observing the baby in the process of becoming. Does that mean he is developing? Does development not mean that what is there is developing? How can that be?
